1, 2, 3 Action!
Drama in Teaching English
1,2,3 Action! is a project based on enjoyable and effective games as well as creative drama in English language teaching in order to improve secondary-school learners' L2 skills. In fact, the age of the students involved in the 1,2,3 Action! project is 11-18 years old.
The aims of the project are consistent with the aims of the Erasmus+ programme. Multilingualism is one of the cornerstones of European projects and a powerful symbol of the EU aspiration to be united in diversity. That's why the EU has set the goal that every citizen should have the opportunity to acquire at least two foreign languages from an early age. Moreover foreign languages have a prominent role among the skills that will help equip people better for the labour market and make the most of available opportunities.
According to the Erasmus+ guide, strategic partnerships in the area of language teaching and learning will be encouraged and with the 1, 2, 3 Action! project an innovative method that blends creative drama and games will be designed and this approach to teaching will be shared as good practice.
The objectives of the project are;
* to increase the levels of the students to the upper level via English lesson activities
* to lessen the anxiety levels of the students against the English language via English lesson activities
* to encourage students to gain more self-confidence via creative drama
* to increase the speaking skills of the students via creative drama
* to prepare games and creative drama for all lessons.
The project will be based on two basic planned activities: games and creative drama.
As far as games are concerned, every school will produce at least two games related to the themes. English lessons with games will help increase the levels of the students to the upper level and to lessen the anxiety levels of the students. In the project, 5 Dramas will be produced as teamwork.
Concrete results of the project will include:
• the English levels of the students will increase to a higher level
• at least 50 students from all schools will experience games and drama in learning English and their anxiety level will lessen
• students who will take part in dramas and games will gain more self-confidence
• English speaking skills of students will be improved
• 5 dramas will be published and will be shared
